The Scientists in the Schools(SIS) program is another way that scientists can communicate their research to the public while also inspiring a new generation to pursue science careers. Each year, Sitka Sound Science Center education staff gathers a line up of scientists to come into K-12 classrooms and work with students. Science Center staff meets with teachers at the beginning of the year to carefully coordinate pre lessons, classroom activities and visits from researchers. The selected scientists are trained in the developmental abilities of the students, parameters of the classroom and the curriculum so that SIS lessons are well coordinated.
