Fishermen & scientists discuss OA in Sitka

In an effort to connect the latest OA research with Alaskans who could potentially be most affected, Alaska OA Network partners held a Q&A session with fishermen in Sitka in January. The conversation allowed residents to ask specific questions relating to their livelihoods, and scientists to better understand the concerns of local people. Read more.

New report available on approach and priorities for OA monitoring in Alaska

Last year, 28 ocean acidification researchers in Alaska met to discuss monitoring priorities, appropriate technologies, and acceptable standard operating protocols.  One of the outcomes of the meeting was a report which also includes information on historic, current, and planned monitoring efforts. Scientist Interview: meet Esther Kennedy

Esther Kennedy is the environmental specialist for the Sitka Tribe, and is overseeing an array of ocean acidification projects in the Sitka Sound region. Among them is the installation of a new OA monitoring buoy. Esther took some time to answer questions about her activities and insights. Read more.
