Haunted Aquarium | 22nd October, 6 to 8 pm
The haunting is coming! Our annual Haunted Aquarium will highlight a spooky adventure in the Mill building along with potion making and face painting in the Sage building. This is a family-friendly fundraising event for Sitka Sound Science Center.
Come dressed as your spookiest sea creature and join us in some Halloween fun.
Bird walks in the park | First Sunday of each month
Sitka National Historical Park, in partnership with Sitka Sound Science Center, invites the public to participate in a series of guided bird walks exploring the diverse bird life of Sitka National Historical Park. Chase Coleman of the Sitka Sound Science Center will lead recurring monthly birding walks that offer an opportunity to observe and identify the park’s resident and migratory birds while sharing knowledge and appreciation with fellow community members. Participants will learn to identify birds by sight and sound, discuss seasonal changes, and track bird activity throughout the year. Park staff will join select walks to offer their expertise and perspectives on the park’s ecosystem. Free programs are open to all experience levels, from first-time birders to seasoned enthusiasts. Participants are encouraged to dress for Southeast Alaska weather and take binoculars if they have them. A limited number of binoculars may be available to borrow.
Sitka Sprouts | Preschool age | Every Tuesday throughout the school year from 10:30 to 11:30am
Our first Sprouts session back is Tuesday Sep 22nd!
Plant the Seeds of Science in the next generation! Sprouts is a free, weekly preschool program that takes place every Tuesday morning from 10:30 – 11:30am at the Sitka Sound Science Center during the fall, winter, and spring months. This program is designed for children ages 3-5 years old and their parents. Each session begins with a story followed by a variety of hands-on crafts and activities related to the theme of the story. There is a new theme every week, so no worries if you miss a session. No registration is necessary, just stop on by!

Southeast Alaska Landslide Information and Preparedness Monthly Hangout
The Southeast Alaska Landslide Information and Preparedness Partnership brings communities and governments together to reduce the risk of landslides to the people and resources of Southeast Alaska through coordinated research, mitigation, communication, outreach, and response. This group meets on the last Thursday of every month (unless otherwise noted) from 8-9am AKST and is an opportunity to learn from ongoing efforts, forge new partnerships, and build coordination across the region.
