Grow AL-G with SSSC

DONATE TODAY

Help bring updated research laboratories, inspiring aquarium designs, and accessible grounds to our scientists, students, and visitors.

By supporting our Aquarium, Laboratories, and Grounds project (AL-G) you are supporting the pursuit of knowledge through scientific exploration.

Sage Through the Century

Built in 1929 as an extension to Sheldon Jackson College, the Sage building has served many different purposes all in the name of education. From carpentry shops grew scientific laboratories which evolved further into the salmon hatchery we know and love. The building has seen countless students, and educators of many different disciplines inspiring the love of learning across generations. Currently it is home to our research laboratories, education department, administration office, hatchery office, and salt water aquarium.

Help us carry this love of discovery into the future with a donation for our upcoming remodel. The AL-G project will update aging equipment and infrastructure bringing our nearly 100-year-old building into the future. With these funds we will transform our aquarium to better showcase our nearly 200 local species, update our laboratory spaces with modern equipment, and open our grounds to be accessible for all visitors.

Help us bring our Aquarium, Laboratories, and Grounds up to the level our researchers and students deserve. Your donation today supports scientific research and discoveries into our future.

Aquarium

Our remodel plans include an amazing upgrade of our current display tanks, while keeping our touch tank favorites. We’re looking forward to having a designated octopus tank, multiple jellyfish tanks, and so much more. Plans include a surge tank which mimics tidal flux showcasing the power of our oceans and how animals have adapted to thrive in such extreme environments. We’re also thrilled for the prospects of at 12 foot tall tank displaying our local kelp forests and the numerous animals that call them home.

Laboratories

Our current equipment and laboratory spaces have housed countless discoveries allowing our scientists to answer their questions. But, with our remodel we will be able to offer our scientists state-of-the-art research space and equipment allowing them to delve deeper into the questions that matter.

Grounds

Our remodel will open up and level out the ground surrounding our building. We will clear walk ways and have designated space for our visitors to get up close perspectives of our operations all while avoiding crossing paths with our working staff. Paved areas and boardwalks will open the space and create flow between all stages of our Salmon Hatchery Tour. This paired with informational signage will allow for self guided walking tours.
