Chum Project Update – Gearing Up

June 22, 2021, by admin

SSSC is preparing for another year of studying chum salmon in SE Alaska. This past week over 1,000 pounds of field camp gear, plus a zodiac, shipped to Juneau to be setup in our brand-new remote field camp. Two of our SSSC staff are traveling to Juneau this week to begin the long process of setting up camp. This will be the first year using a remote field camp to host six people off the grid for nearly seven weeks.

Lots of gear is required for setting up a remote field camp.

Also, keep an eye out for 12 new faces in Sitka, as our 2021 Chum Project crew will be arriving in just a few short weeks to begin training for a true Alaskan adventure. Training will include fish handling techniques, genetic sampling, first aid, and bear safety. We cannot wait to get started!
