You’ve seen “Kruzof” the killer whale skeleton in the Sitka Sound Science Center’s aquarium. Can you imagine being part of a team that puts together a sea lion skeleton? Dem Bones campers conducted a necropsy to learn about the unique structural adaptions of marine mammals and reconstructed a California Sea Lion, which they named Lazaria. The camp was facilitated by our Aquarium Manager, Ashley Bolwerk in partnership with Dr. Shannon Atkinson from the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Funding for this camp was provided by the Sitka Alaska Permanent Charitable Trust.
