Feeding Fry

March 23, 2020, by admin

The hatchery crew moved 2700 kilograms (kg) of fish food from the sea wall to the net pens for our very hungry and growing baby pink and chum salmon fry. This amount of food should last about one month. Can you help our hatchery crew figure out how many kg of food they should be feeding per day so that they can stay on track this month? (Hint: 30 days per month, 2700kg of food should last the entire month)

Extension: If they go out to the net pens five times per day to feed, how many kg do they give per feeding?

Curious how the hatchery crew distributes food to all 3 million pink and 3 million chum salmon fry? Check out next Monday’s Science Bite for some live footage of the all-star hatchery crew hard at work!
