In celebration of the Earth

On Earth day, we honor the land, waters, plants, and animals that sustain us and enrich our lives. Join us and other community organizations on Thursday, April 22, from 4:30pm – 6pm on the lawn of the Sitka Fine Arts Camp to hear from community leaders and celebrate the actions we can take to protect our planet.

Earth Day Activities

4:30 – tables/activities open

4:40 – Haa Shagoon (our ancestors in Tlingit) drum group begins playing.

5:10 – MC – Darby Osborne starts, COVID safe reminder, introduces speakers:

  • Catherine Rogers – land acknowledgement, we are on Tlingit Aani + Rotary support
  • Lakota Harden – Earth is sacred
  • Harvey Kitka – Speaking about protecting the herring.
  • Roger Schmidt – The role of art and creativity 
  • Mia Anderson – Youth Voices Count – our planet, our future 

5:40 – 6:00 – Attendees visit stations and take 3 or more actions to protect the planet, before the big group picture.

Tube worms made their home in styrofoam. Stop by our exhibit to learn more about how marine debris are impacting the ocean environment and what you can do to help.
