Development Director
Job Duration: Yearly, renewable contingent upon meeting performance goals
SSSC Status: Regular, Half-Time, Overtime Exempt

Pay Rate: $50,000-$60,000 DOE
Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Development Director to join our team. The Development Director is responsible for leading fundraising for the organization’s budget with a focus on large gifts and grants and including donor stewardship and campaign management.
Tasks
Primary tasks and areas of responsibility
- Establish and steward relationships with members, donors, foundations, corporations, and other philanthropic and impact investment partners
- Coordinate communication and grow organizational visibility with funders and other relevant partners
- Develop and design grant applications, proposals, reports, and communication collateral
- Provide support to the Sitka Sound Science Center Communications teams and to the Finance Director and Executive Director
- Create and implement innovative funding strategies
- Coordinate funding pipeline and funder relationship management system
- Develop and implement fundraising and donor communications strategies to meet fundraising goals
- Contribute to the development of the administrative and operations team’s operational strategy and annual work plan
- Develop and share budgetary needs for fundraising in organizational budgeting process
- Follow organizational financial policies in spending
- Other duties as assigned
Results and outputs expected of this role
- Annual fundraising goals for Sitka Sound Science Center’s organizational budget are met through the cultivation of major gifts and implementation of innovative funding strategies
- Breadth and depth of connections with funders are increased
- Funder outreach is accomplished according to annual calendar and fundraising and communications strategies
- Relevant committees and Directors are provided with professional and timely support
- Funder relationship management system is current

Qualifications
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Acumen for fundraising and donor stewardship
- Acumen for organization and attention to detail
- Competence in grant and proposal writing
- Communication skills (written and oral) and ability to speak in public settings
- Proficiency in project planning and implementation
- Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, external agencies, and philanthropic and impact investment partners
- Ability to lead, plan, organize, control, and administer projects
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Education and experience
- Education or training in public relations, communications, administration, journalism, nonprofit management, business, finance, economic development, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience raising significant funds for nonprofit or mission-driven work
- Experience leading highly collaborative projects and programs
Background
The Sitka Sound Science Center (SSSC) is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit research and educational organization. Our mission is to improve the understanding and awareness of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems of Coastal Alaska through scientific research and science education. As part of this mission, we maintain a broad portfolio of research projects, host and support visiting scientists in their work, and integrate our research into a variety of educational programs.
