Mountain Goat Research on Baranof Island
The first Natural History seminar of the season features Kevin White of the Alaska Fish and Game giving a talk “Mountain Goat Research on Baranof Island” on Thursday October 13th at 7:30pm room 229 UAS.
The talk will discuss the Mountain goat research project on Baranof Island which was initiated in 2010 and has focused on monitoring GPS radio-collared mountain goats ( 55, to date) to gain valuable field data and knowledge about population dynamics, movement patterns and habitat ecology. Preliminary findings from Mountain goat research on Baranof Island will be compared with data collected from other studies in southeast Alaska, to provide ecological context. This information is used to inform Mountain goat conservation and management decisions on Baranof Island.
