MT EDGECUMBE IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Quivers from Mt. Edgecumbe in April brought a good deal of attention to the dormant Stratovolcano off the coast of Sitka. A team of volcanologists from the Alaska Volcano Observatory have been studying the volcano and the recent earthquake swarm beneath it. Now, they are on their way to town to discuss the volcanic history, recent findings, and ongoing work related to the local volcano with the community.

The Sitka Sound Science Center is helping to coordinate outreach activities with the Alaska Volcano Observatory next week. Their public activities include:

Monday May 2nd:

  • 11AM ‘Problem Corner’ Interview on KIFW 
  •  5:30 – 7:30 PM Harbor Mountain Brewery ‘Ask a Volcanologist’ Q&A
