Mysteries and Storytelling in the Aquarium

October 11, 2023, by Lisa Teas Conaway

Discover the secret structures, movements, and stories of animals in the aquarium within our afterschool programs!

Thanks to a RurAL CAP grant focusing on improving literacy skills we are able to offer two new and wonderful programs at the Sitka Sound Science Center.

On Wednesdays from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm 4th and 6th grade students are encouraged to explore movements and structures of our aquarium residences through the lens of math. Through hands-on activities students will find new ways of approaching math and increasing their math literacy skills and knowledge.

Thursdays from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm welcomes 6th to 8th graders to expand their storytelling skills. Students will explore the importance, methodology, and grand fun of storytelling. Through these exercises they will increase their reading literacy and general knowledge of local sea life through interactive programs.

Both programs run weekly through the end of November, visit our events calendar for specific dates.

Registration is free, but space is limited.

Contact Maia Carter mcarter@sitkascience.org with questions or to register.
