Sitka Sound Science Center Scientist in Residency Fellow and Shellfish Biologist Courtney Hart’s work at the University of Alaska Fairbanks partners with The Sitka Tribe of Alaska, Commercial Geoduck Divers, local shellfish farmers, and state agencies to understand local algal bloom events so that we can better manage shellfisheries in Southeast Alaska. She will give an overview on how harmful algal blooms impact Southeast Alaska’s shellfish industries and how to stay informed on safe shellfish consumption.
