Emma Spies (she/her) is from Southern Maine, born and raised. She attended the University of Maine and earned her degree in Marine Sciences. Emma participated in the University of Alaska Southeast Alaska Dive Semester while in school, and fell in love with Sitka. After returning to Maine to graduate and gain experience in the field, working on various research projects regarding the American Lobster, European Green Crabs, and Chesapeake Blue Crabs, she decided it was time to go back to Sitka. She was interested in learning about aquaculture and hatcheries, and turned to the Science Center to do just that! Emma is very excited to be back in Sitka, and when she is not mothering thousands of salmon, you can find her swimming, hiking, or reading.
