Josh Roering
Professor, Dept of Earth Sciences, University of Oregon
Josh Roering is a geomorphologist who specializes in landslide processes and landscape evolution. He and his collaborators use field observations, geochemical analyses, laboratory experiments, computer models, and remote sensing to investigate mountain building by tectonic processes and erosion by rivers, glaciers, landslides, and other processes. Roering's research has led to fundamental insights on what controls the height and dissection of hilly and mountainous topography as well as the influence of wildfire and land use practices, such as timber harvesting, on erosion and landscape change. Roering hails from Minnesota and he received his PhD in Geology from UC Berkeley and his B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Earth Sciences from Stanford University. He has been on the faculty at the University of Oregon since 2000. blogs.uoregon.edu/jroering/
