Josie Eccher

Hatchery Technician Apprentice

Josie grew up in southwest Colorado, where she developed a strong passion for aquatic ecosystems. This pushed her to pursue a degree in Environmental Science at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana. During her time there, she studied fish recolonization in dammed rivers. After graduating, she returned to Colorado to assist with a genetic study on freshwater sculpin. Now, Josie is the Hatchery Apprentice at the Sitka Sound Science Center, where she is learning fish culture techniques and helping rear Coho, Pink, and Chum salmon. In her free time, you can find her fly fishing, tying flies, and watercolor painting.
