Scott Gabara

University of Alaska Fairbanks

Scott Gabara is a postdoctoral researcher in the marine biology department within the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences at University of Alaska Fairbanks, based in Juneau. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of California Santa Cruz and began taking courses in scientific diving. Scott earned a Master’s in marine science from Moss Landing marine laboratory through San Jose State University. During this time, he co-taught scientific diving at Moss Landing marine laboratories. He received a Ph.D. from the joint doctoral program with San Diego State University and University of California Davis and conducted his doctoral work on the impacts of losing kelp forests across many of the Aleutian Islands. Currently, Scott's research combines surveys of intertidal marine communities, beach seines for estimating nearshore fishes, and intertidal sensors measuring seawater salinity, temperature, oxygen, and light, to better predict how melting glaciers will affect marine flora and fauna.
