Record Breaking Summer?
Our summer tourist season is in full swing. We saw the first cruise ship of the season on May 8, and it has been non-stop since. This year, Sitka is looking at about a 30% increase in cruise ship passengers, with over 200,000 cruise ship guests anticipated, not including boat crew members. We will see several new cruise ships this summer, such as the Queen Elizabeth (pictured above), the Disney Wonder, and the Azamara Quest, just to name a few.
The tourist season represents a large chunk of our annual revenue, and we are working to capture as many visitors as possible. We have started offering weekly public feedings of Pearl and Kanaloa, Thursdays at 12:30, as well as two feedings of the touch tanks and Molly tank, Tuesdays and Saturdays at 12:00 and 12:30. We have our Jr. Naturalist program available for kids to complete, earning a badge and the right to be called a Jr. Naturalist. We hope to offer other daily programs for kids as well.
Are you planning a visit to Sitka this summer? We would love to see you. Our hours are Monday-Saturday, 9-4, and the occasional Sunday, when it’s needed. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for kids (ages 3-12), and under 3 or free.
