Alexis grew up in Sitka and every summer went on a kayak trip with family.  This led to a great love of the outdoors.  As a volunteer field technician for the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge on St. Lazaria the summer after her first year of college, Alexis found her calling and has spent every summer since working on various seabird colonies. In 2011, Alexis returned to St. Lazaria to collect data for a graduate degree and now a PhD from UAF.   By understanding how seabirds respond to variability in their environment, Alexis believes that we can better understand how the marine ecosystem as a whole will respond to future changes.  The Science Center is pleased to work with Alexis as our Scientist in the Schools for the Kindergarten classes’ study of birds.
