Remember to register early for the full symposium at SitkaWhaleFest.org
While we wait for this November to draw nearer, we can listen back to some of last year’s WhaleFest talk highlights.
Matt Wilson did an amazing one all about Jellyfish propagation, titled ‘Slime, Clones, and Baby Factories: Sci-Fi or Jellyfish Sex?’ It explores the strange ways Jellyfish reproduce and what we can learn from them.
Abstract | A guided walkthrough of jellyfish reproduction and culture methods. We’ll quickly establish what exactly jellyfish are, and then dive into the inner workings of the class Scyphozoa, from planulae to medusae and the twists and turns in between. We’ll proceed into how to culture them in the lab, and why you’d even bother. After learning the process, we’ll explore the questions and implications of jelly reproductive cycles and what we can learn from culturing these often-surprising animals.
