Slime, Clones, and Baby Factories
Join our own Matt Wilson at the first Natural History Seminar of 2024, hosted by University of Alaska Southeast Sitka campus.
Join Matt on a guided walkthrough of jellyfish reproduction and culture methods. We’ll quickly establish what exactly jellyfish are, and then dive into the inner workings of the class Scyphozoa, from planulae to medusae and the twists and turns in between. We’ll proceed into how to culture them in the lab, and why you’d even bother. After learning the process, we’ll explore the questions and implications of jelly reproductive cycles and what we can learn from culturing these often-surprising animals.
Join Matt Thursday, February 1st, 7:00pm in room 229 at University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus.
