Sprouts – “Marine Debris”

April 21, 2020, by Kristina Tirman

Happy Earth Week! To kick off the week-long celebration, today’s Sprout Science Bite theme is Marine Debris! The Sitka Sound Science Center has been involved in marine debris efforts since our inception in 2008. We have partnered with commercial fisherman, community partners, schools, and funders to remove debris from local coastlines as well as coastlines in the Bering Sea.

Download the “Sprouts Activity Packet” for a book recommendation list, links to marine debris videos, and four fun crafts and activities. Use the “Marine Debris Recording Sheet” to keep track of what you’re collecting when you venture out on your own cleanup!

Check out this PSA that highlights the role that individuals play in reducing marine debris. After all, every drop counts– and it is up to us to create change. Spread the word and inspire people to take action to reduce marine debris!
