SSSC Reopening Update 4/27/20
Dear Friends and Supporters,
We know you are eager to get back into the aquarium to visit with your favorite critters, and we are eager to visit with you too. However, in response to the latest changes in mandates and the Governor’s Reopen Alaska Responsibly Plan Sitka Sound Science Center will not immediately resume operations for the public. We will be taking some time to sort through the details and adjust our policies and operations to ensure that we are providing the safest environment for our staff and guests.
In the meantime, Sandy is continuing to make sure that Pearl, Kanaloa, Wanda and all the other critters in the aquarium are staying happy and healthy. The hatchery crew has been busy feeding our baby salmon and preparing for their release. The education team continues to work with the Sitka schools and make plans for the summer programs. The Mill building construction has continued and is almost complete. The research team has been busy reviewing the data collected from the COVID-19 survey and tipping buckets. Thank you all for your participation in the survey, we’ve received over 500 responses already!
We look forward to seeing you all in person soon, even if it is just a few people at a time. Until then continue washing your hands, keeping your distance and validating sources of information.
