Support Science This Giving Tuesday

November 23, 2022, by admin

The Sitka Sound Science Center is collecting donations for the Cunningham-Ahlgren Scholarship Fund

In honor of Walt Cunningham and Molly O. Ahlgren’s passion for learning, this scholarship fund supports opportunities for educational and professional development in the marine sciences.

Molly O. Ahlgren was a visionary scientist, responsible for training numerous marine scientists throughout Alaska and spearheading the development of the Science Center aquarium and touch tanks. Her research and dive partner, Walt Cunningham, was a research technician for the ADF&G sea lion program and a founding Board Member of Sitka WhaleFest. As Giving Tuesday approaches, we hope you consider donating to the fund. Visit the links at the bottom of the page to learn how to donate.

More about the fund…

Funds are divided into three main areas:

  • Scholarships for students of all ages to attend the SSSC summer programs.
  • Scholarships for undergraduate Sitka students in their 3rd or 4th year of pursuing a STEM major.
  • Scholarships for SSSC staff members to attend technical training that furthers their professional development.

Your contribution will make an impact on the community of Sitka, whether you donate $5 or $500. Every little bit helps. Thank you for supporting the Sitka Sound Science Center, and our vision to enhance Sitka’s legacy as a leading educational and scientific community.
