Coming in March
Watercolors with Pat Kehoe

Thursdays March 7th, 14th, 21st, & 28th from 6 to 8pm

Join Pat Kehoe at the Sitka Sound Science Center to learn the basics of watercolor techniques and explore our aquarium.
$100 registration covers all 4 classes and all supplies provided, participants will be able to take their travel watercolor brush home with them. Classes will cover a range of topics from color theory to composition and materials.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies as desired, but watercolor paper, paint and brushes will be provided.

 

  • March 7th Why paint? What makes a painting engaging, interesting, thought-provoking? Care of brushes. | We will do value studies and practice paint pouring techniques. We will also paint from aquarium subjects and do quick semi-blind contour drawings followed by painting.
  • March 14th Aspects of Composition | We will practice different sketching exercises for composition arrangements. Exploring techniques of cutting out subjects and rearranging to achieve appealing compositions. Completed compositions will be simplified and painted.
  • March 21st Color, intro to theory and mixing | We will exercise painting aquarium creatures without drawing first.
  • March 28th Tools of the trade: brushes, paints, sketch journals and tear files | We will practice painting using pouring and powdered paint as well as value sketches.

Our group will meet each Thursday in March at the Sitka Sound Science Center After Hours 6 to 8pm. Snacks will be provided.
