Spring Break Camps
Renewable Energy Spring Break Camp is hosted by the City and Borough of Sitka, the Sitka Sound Science Center, Youth Advocates of Sitka, and the Sitka Conservation Society. Camp is from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. starting Monday, March 16 through Wednesday, March 18 at Blatchley Middle School. Each day will culminate in a community event from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This camp is for anyone aged 10+, with programming for both children and adults interested in learning more about Sitka’s past, present, and future with renewable energy. Snacks are included.
Camp Expectations: Campers should be able to sustain focus for hour-long field trips, feel comfortable working with people of all ages, work with other campers to solve engineering challenges, and feel excited about time outside and stretches of physical activity. They will be expected to plan cooperatively and delegate tasks, support their peers, and be independently motivated. These campers will learn science content through direct instruction, individual experimentation and observation, group discussion, and Q&A with experts. Skills in these camps require maturity and compliance with safety instructions. Work blocks will be 30–60 minutes.
Photo Release: I hereby authorize and consent to the use of the participant’s visual image by City and Borough of Sitka, Sitka Conservation Society, Youth Advocates of Sitka, and the Sitka Sound Science Center for appropriate purposes, including but not limited to: still photography, videotape, electronic and print publications and websites. I give this consent with no claim for payment.
